Text used: Grace, PatriciaButterflies Gibbs, Angelica The Test What were your responses to the content and the break water of the narrative? Both Butterflies and The Test are unawares stories and although the discrepancy works the former, it does non for the latter. Butterflies is exactly the right length and would be tedious were it any longer. The Test however, reads as a rushed, clumsy, condensed chapter from a very good novel. The narrative jumps whereas, if longer, it could flow by mentioning gestures and seventh cranial nerve expressions to break up the constant conversation exchange. As for the content, I enjoyed Butterflies for the short, humorous story it is and appreciated its moral. I did not enjoy The Test as much because I was acquiring just as frustrated as Marian with the inapplicable driving instructor calling her Mandy Lou and making racist, patronizing remarks. In addition, Gibbs assumes the reader go out recognize that when the instructors pronunciation changes he is imitating a Southern accent. Lastly, Gibbs assumes the reader knows that pickaninnies is an offensive word for African-American children and that collectible to their low-standing position in society there would be no point notifying authorities about the instructor impuissance Marian because of his racial prejudice towards her. Grace assumes the reader knows the female childs grandparents way of speaking is due to their migrant backcloth and that the grandpa boasts to his neighbour that the little girl goes to sc hool because he and his wife were most like! ly poorly educated.
